Dell Launches New Range of Latitude Laptops in India
Dell on Wednesday took the wraps off its range of Windows 10 Pro-running Latitude laptops and 2-in-1 devices in India starting from Rs. 44,999. While the highlight of the launch event were the Dell Latitude 13 (7370) Ultrabook and the Latitude 12 (7270) detachable notebook, the company also showcased its revamped Latitude 3000 and Latitude 5000 series.[sc:afterFooterAd]
The Dell Latitude 13 (7370) 7000 Series Ultrabook (seen above), the company claims, is the world's smallest 13-inch business class Ultrabook and is mainly for on-the-go users. The USP of the laptop is its 13.3-inch Infinity Edge display, which we first saw with the company's XPS line of laptops. It will be available in full-HD resolution non-touch and QHD+ resolution Touch display variants.
Besides the ultrathin display, the laptop's outer shell is built using 40ton carbon fiber making it durable. Some of the connectivity features carried by the Latitude 13 7370 include USB Type-C ports, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.1, Micro-USB 3.0 with support for Thunderbolt 3, 4G LTE support, microSD card reader, and Micr-SIM card slot. As for the security, users get a smartcard reader, fingerprint reader, and RFID reader, apart from security and encryption software.
The laptop can be customised with up to 16GB LPDDR3 RAM, sixth generation Intel Core m7, and up to 512GB SED SSD storage. Also included is a HD video webcam. The Latitude 13 (7370) will be available starting April and will come with a starting price of Rs. 79,999.
The Dell Latitude 12 (7275) 7000 Series 2-in-1 (seen above) is claimed by Dell as the lightest 12.5-inch 2-in-1 device. Since the device sports a 2-in-1 design, it uses a magnetic latch to lock both the keyboard and the tablet together instead of using latches and alignment pins. It comes with two keyboard options. While the Dell Latitude 12 Slim Keyboard is a full-size backlit keyboard, the Dell Latitude 12 Premium keyboard is lightweight, has backlit functionality and additionally includes mouse cursor control along with a gesture touchpad.
The Latitude 12 (7275)'s 12.5-inch display comes in full-HD touch and UHD Touch variants and are 8mm thin with Corning Gorilla Glass NBT protection. It features a magnesium unibody build. It also comes in Intel Core m3, Core m5, and Core m7 processor options and can take up to 8GB of RAM. Also featured are an 8-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. It will be hitting the shelves this month starting at Rs. 87,999.
Dell says the Latitude 11 (5175) 5000 series (seen above) is already up for grabs starting at Rs. 59,999. The 2-in-1 device features 10.8-inch full-HD touch display with corning Gorilla Glass protection. It can be customised with sixth Generation Intel Core m3 or Core m5 processors and with up to 8GB of LPDDR3 SDRAM. The Latitude 11 5175 device can take up to 512GB SSD SATA storage, features 8-megapixel rear and 5-megapixel front-facing camera. As for connectivity, the device sports a USB 3.0 port, Type-A Micro-USB 3.0, Micro-HDMI, SD memory card reader, and SIM card slot. In the wireless connectivity department, the device houses Wi-Fi, Miracast, NFC, 4G LTE support, and Bluetooth v4.1.
The company at the event also put on display its Latitude E5570, Latitude E5470, and Latitude E3470 laptops and notebooks among others. Two monitors namely Dell UltraSharp 27 Monitor UP2716D and the Dell UltraSharp 27 Ultra HD 5K UP2715K were also showcased. All the laptops are compatible with Dell Dock (seen below) and Dell Thunderbolt Dock accessories. Dell says its ProSupport Plus support service also covers the aforementioned Latitude range of laptops.

The benchmark Sensex retreated over 250 points in the morning trade on Thursday as investors booked profits in recent gainers amid mixed Asian cues.
11.24 am: Reliance Infrastructure shares strengthened as its arm got 12 industrial licences from DIPP. The scrip was trading 0.70 per cent up at Rs 519.15.Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) has approved 12 industrial licences to Reliance Defence, an arm of Reliance Infrastructure, for manufacturing of a wide range of defence equipment. The licence approval by the DIPP for strategic business units (SBUs) of the company is aimed at addressing defence programmes in India and overseas. Sensex was down 245 points at 24,548.
11.01 am: Sensex plunged further and was trading 262 points down at 24,532.
10.55 am: Sensex was down 211 points 24,582. China stocks were down over 0.50 per cent on Thursday as investors interpreted data showing consumer inflation rising faster than forecasted as being largely negative for an economy struggling to find momentum.
10.41 am: Sensex was trading 183.57 points down at 24,610. Infosys shares were down 2.50 per cent at Rs 1,149. Four shareholders have put up a block in Infosys for sale to raise up to Rs 880 crore – IFR reports.
10.38 am: Corporation Bank gained on plan to raise funds up to Rs 1,000 crore. The scrip was trading 1.35 per cent up at Rs 41.40.
10.11 am: Nifty was trading 50.90 points down at 7,482. Market experts believe that apart from profit-booking in recent gainers, a mixed trend at other Asian markets affected market sentiments in today’s trade.
10.02 am: Sensex plunged 171.10 points to 24622 on profit booking. Nifty was trading 48.50 points down at 7,483. Just Dial shares were trading over 5 per cent up at Rs 692.50.
9.53 am: The rupee edged higher by 8 paise to 67.13 against the US dollar in early trade on Thursday at the Inter-bank Foreign Exchange market on increased selling of the US currency by exporters and banks.
9.46 am: Sensex was down 114.23 points points at 24,679. Credit Suisse downgraded Indian shares to “Underweight” from “Overweight” and said that India will experience “modest deterioration” in external position, added valuations are at “unjustifiable” premiums, while earnings revisions are most negative across emerging markets.
9.32 am: Shares of Dewan Housing Finance Corporation were trading 3.53 per cent up at Rs 183.55. The company has received an approval to raise funds up to Rs 5,100 crore, subject to market conditions, by way of a secured or unsecured debt issue by means of a private placement or listed on any offshore or onshore Stock Exchanges. The board of directors at its meeting held on March 09, 2016 has approved for the same. Sensex was down 65 points at 24,728.
9.16 am: Sensex was down 53.39 points, or 0.22 per cent, at 24,740.57. Nifty was quoting 2.85 points down at 7,528.95.
9.15 am: BSE Sensex opened 21.74 points, or 0.09 per cent, up at 24815.70, while NSE Nifty 50 index advanced 13.55 points, 0.18 per cent, at 7,545.35. Bajaj Auto on Wednesday informed bourses that the board of the company has considered and declared an interim dividend at the rate of Rs 50 per equity share of Rs 10 each (i.e. 500 per cent), for the financial year ending March 31, 2016.
8.48 am: Benchmark indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty are likely to open higher on Thursday tracking Nifty futures on the Singapore Stock Exchange (SGX Nifty) and firm global markets.
At 8.28 am (IST), SGX Nifty was trading 17 points, or 0.23 per cent, up at 7,551.
Asian stock markets were trading in green in the morning trade on Thursday after New Zealand surprised markets with a rate cut, keeping investors primed for more stimulus from the European Central Bank later in the day as global policy makers step up efforts to support their wobbly economies. Hang Seng and Nikkei were up by 0.62 per cent and 0.98 per cent, respectively.
Wall Street stocks gained on Wednesday as the strong recovery in oil prices sent energy shares sharply higher. The S&P energy index rose 1.5 per cent.
The Dow Jones industrial average ended up 36.26 points, or 0.21 per cent, to 17,000.36, the S&P 500 gained 10 points, or 0.51 per cent, to 1,989.26 and the Nasdaq Composite added 25.55 points, or 0.55 per cent, to 4,674.38.
Back home, the winning run for markets continued for the sixth straight session on Wednesday, with the BSE Sensex reversing all its losses to close about 135 points higher at 24,793.96 — a 5-week high — on continued expectations that RBIwould bring down the policy rate.
The 50-share index NSE Nifty went past the crucial 7,500-mark and closed higher by 46.50 points, or 0.62 per cent, at 7,531.80.
Shares of Coal India and BHEL will remain in focus on Thursday. Amid a strike call by Coal India worker unions, the company management is likely to meet the protesting unions next week over the issue.
BHEL on Wednesday informed stock exchanges that credit rating agency Crisil has downgraded its ratings on the long-term bank facilities to AA+/ Negative from AAA/Negative. Samsung has begun selling the Notebook 9 laptops lineup that it had unveiled in January this year. TheWindows 10 laptops, which are available in four different configurations, start at $999.99 (roughly Rs. 67,000) and go all the way up to $1,499.99 (roughly Rs. 100,500).

Mallya blames media for spoiling reputation, seeks to clarify why Kingfisher failed
Bengaluru: In a damage control exercise, beleaguered industrialist Vijay Mallya on Sunday blamed media for spoiling his reputation and sought to clarify why his dream airline Kingfisher failed.
“The past few days have witnessed a near hysterical campaign in the media directed against me,” the 60-year-old flamboyant tycoon said in a statement here.
Accusing media of indulging in sensationalism, he said he felt the time had come to clarify his position in order to avoid relentless attack on his reputation.
“I have always lived an honourable life and the calumny notwithstanding, shall continue to do so. As to the allegations in media, all I can say is I hope some sobriety and sense will prevail and truth not held a hostage to TRPs.”
Recalling that Kingfisher was launched in 2005 on the basis of viable business plan vetted by SBI Capital Markets and international aviation consultants, Mallya admitted that despite every effort, the airline was an unfortunate commercial failure caused by macro-economic factors and then government policies.
“The truth about Kingfisher Airlines and its financial stress due to external factors has been reported by State Bank of India (SBI) to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in their letter dated 31st January 2012,” he said in the statement.
Mallya’s statement comes ahead of the Debt Recovery Tribunal’s order on the four interlocutory applications (IAs) the SBI moved on March 2, seeking his arrest, impounding his passport, disclosure of his assets in India and abroad and first claim to the $75 million deal he had signed with British liquor major Diageo plc on February 25 for resigning as chairman of its Indian arm United Spirits Ltd (USL). The tycoon also said he would move to Britain to be with his family.
When the tribunal reserved its order on Friday and posted next hearing to Monday, the SBI filed a writ petition in the Karnataka High Court as a lead bank of a consortium of banks, seeking same relief it sought from the tribunal. On this, the court issued notice to Mallya and others for response by this week.
A consortium of 17 state-run and private banks loaned funds of Rs.7,800 crore to Kingfisher, a public firm, but these loans were secured by blue chip securities.
After the airline’s closure in 2012, the banks and their assignees recovered an aggregate of Rs.1,244 crore from sale of pledged shares since April 2013, he said.
In addition, an aggregate of Rs.600 crore is lying deposited in the Karnataka High Court since July 2013 and Rs.650 crore of United Breweries Holdings has been deposited there since early 2014, being sums realised from proceeds received by the UB Holdings from sale of shares in United Spirits to Diageo in July 2013.
“Thus, the aggregate cash recovery/security available is Rs.2,494 crore,” Mallya claimed in the statement.
Observing that a disinformation campaign had made him a poster boy of all banks’ NPAs (non-performing assets) despite pledging blue chip securities and depositing unspecified amounts in court, Mallya said banks have NPAs of Rs.11 lakh crore and borrowers owe much more than Kingfisher.
“None of these large borrowers have been declared wilful defaulters, but unfortunately, UB Holdings and I have been declared wilful defaulters by certain banks on technical grounds. I have legally challenged these declarations,” he said.
Clarifying all inquiries found no evidence of misappropriation of funds by his defunct airline or himself, he said hence allegations and innuendo to this effect were false.
“My group invested Rs 4,000 crore into the airline which stands impaired – it is not as though it is only the bank debt that has suffered. Banks will recover a substantial part of their debt – my groups loss is permanent,” Mallya noted.
Lamenting for being painted as an absconder, Mallya said he had been a non-resident for around 28 years and the RBI had acknowledged this in writing.
“Over the years, I have built businesses in India and abroad. I am also honoured to be a member of the Rajya Sabha (from Karnataka for the second time),” he added./*/[sc:afterFooterAd]
